What Do You Do with a 4-Leaf Clover?

As a nature lover, I love 4-leaf clovers, waterfalls, dandelions, and starry nights. So what do you do with a 4-leaf clover?

First, you have to FIND one. My daughter says it’s not fair. She can spend an hour looking for one and still has never found one. Me, on the other hand? I can find them without even trying.

When I was in 3rd grade, the Teacher’s Assistant, Ms. Allen, would give away a seashell to anybody who would find her a 4-leaf clover. That’s how I started my seashell collection. I had never been to the beach before, but I could find a 4-leaf clover with my eyes closed. Okay, not really. But I was pretty good at it.

She told us about the barrel on her front porch filled with water and 4-leaf clovers. I wonder if she was trying to root them!

When I was 12 years old, I found 18 four-leaf clovers in an hour! Now, I can find them while strolling on a walk.

So what is a 4-leaf clover anyway?

It’s a mutation of the regular 3-leaf kind of clover. I wonder if Ms. Allen ever became rich and famous by selling seeds for 4-leaf clovers? Is that even a thing?

What do the 4 leaves stand for?

Each leaf is an Irish symbol of faith, hope, love and luck. St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, which consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. So what does the fourth leaf mean? According to St. Patrick, it stands for the Grace of God.

Once you find a four-leaf clover, what do you do with it?

The first thing you should do when you find a 4-leaf clover is to press it flat. I usually put mine inside a book or under a small box. After a day or two, it will be dried and pressed flat.

Once it’s dry and flat, it will be fragile. But you can laminate them. I collect mine in a couple of boxes. You can turn them into bookmarks (or jewelry if you’re super crafty) and give them to friends and family.
